Our Trust of Schools

Curriculum

Our vision as a school is ‘to provide high quality education for the children of our community, through both support and challenge, which is tailored to meet the needs of each and every child’, and our curriculum is the vehicle through which we achieve this.

Our broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum is carefully and strategically planned to ensure equity and opportunity for all learners. It is adaptive to meet the needs of every child, while remaining well-structured, inclusive and ambitious in its design. Through clear progression, high expectations and meaningful learning experiences, we work towards our mission of Excellence Through Habit, enabling every pupil to thrive both academically and personally.

We have a knowledge-rich curriculum that ensures clear, sequential progression towards ambitious end points across all subject areas. We continue to develop and refine this in partnership with colleagues across the Ted Wragg Trust.

Each Department (subject area) has translated our overarching curriculum vision into a clear ‘Intent’ for the five year duration of the course.

Developed from the curriculum intention, is the ‘Curriculum Road Map’ detailing what students will learn over the 5 years of study, in each subject.

We place great importance on our teachers being experts within their respective subject disciplines. We want our students to have access to the very best that has been thought and said, and, with this in mind, our teachers carefully consider both what is taught and how it is taught to ensure learning is meaningful, engaging and ambitious.

We firmly believe that every student deserves access to a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum that keeps future opportunities open to them; therefore, we do not narrow the curriculum. Throughout the first three years, all students experience a wide range of subjects across the performing and visual arts, humanities and technical disciplines, alongside a strong foundation in the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Languages, RE*, PSHE and PE. This ensures that students develop both depth of knowledge and a rich breadth of experience, preparing them for future success.

From Year 10, the curriculum offered is a mixture of both core and optional subjects and is structured to allow for maximum flexibility of choice. We offer a wide variety of courses which allow students the option to study the Arts, Humanities, Languages, PE, Computing, Religious Education, Design Technology and much more.

Underpinning our curriculum are two strands of core learning that make up our Literacy Policy and our Numeracy Policy, using assessment and targeted interventions to develop students number confidence and literacy skills.

Our extracurricular offer is also incredibly strong here at Isca Academy and a guide to the offer across the 5 years in terms of ‘wider experiences’ can be seen here.

We also have a comprehensive careers, advice and guidance programme.  More can be found on our careers page.

Our Curriculum Statement can be found here.
