Sports News from the PE team at Isca Academy:

Year 7 and 8 Rounders Teams continue to play well
The year 7 and 8 Isca Rounders teams were back out in action before half term to finish the summer Central Venue League competition. Both teams performed brilliantly against the 8 other teams at the tournament. Izzy Newbery, Hannah Rae, Katie Frost and Angel Gibbins were amongst the Year 7’s who played brilliantly to score a number of rounders. The Year 8 team, led by Nell Bennett, also played well defeating some of the stronger sides on the day. Overall both teams finished 4th out of 8 teams. Well done girls. We will keep working hard looking ahead to next year.
Year 8 Boys Cricket Narrowly Miss out on Gaining a Place in the County Cricket Final
Isca’s Year 8 boys Cricket team travelled to St Luke’s School to play in the Central Venue League Cricket Tournament. Although the boys had not had a lot of preparation time leading into the tournament they played brilliantly and with a great team spirit to win their opening match against favourites, Bramdean. This victory gave the boys the confidence to go on and also beat Tiverton High School with 3 overs to spare thanks to some fantastic batting from Ollie Banwell and George Caton-Pike and fast bowling from Rio Turl and Tom Day. This lead to a play off for the County finals against QECC, last year’s victors. Isca bowled very well to see off QE’s opening batsman but unfortunately didn’t score enough runs to become overall winners. Well done boys on a brilliant team effort.
Devon Schools Athletics Success
Isca’s Michael Bowley, Georgie Barbour Gresham and Millie Kelly all performed brilliantly at the Exeter & East Devon Area Athletics trials to qualify for the Devon Schools Athletics round. Michael, Year 9, finished 1st place in the Triple Jump  with a personal best of 11.47m. Since the event Michael has been working hard at school and with Exeter Harriers and attained a new PB of  11.67m. Georgie, Year 9, also finished 1st place, competing in the Shot with a throw of 9.52 meters, smashing the County standard. Millie Kelly, Year 10, ran brilliantly in the 300m event to also qualify for the next round. A huge achievement by all of you. Well done and good luck in the next round which is Saturday 11th at Exeter Arena.
Inter-Schools This Week
On Wednesday 15th June, 60 of Isca’s students will be competing in one of the biggest sporting events in the school calendar, the Inter Schools Athletics held at Exeter Arena. A combined mix of Year 7,8,9 and 10 girls and boys will compete across a huge variety of athletics events including Long Jump, Javelin, High Jump, 1500m and the big finale of the day, the 4x100m relays. Good luck to all Isca Academy competitors.
