Sports News February 29th 2016

Another action packed sports report from the Isca PE team. Thanks to Mr Goldman for keeping us informed of all the action both in school and out.

Year 9 Futsal Tournament

Isca’s Year 9 boys A and B Futsal team travelled to St Luke’s to play in the Central Venue League Tournament. Futsal has grown rapidly over the last two years at Isca with all year groups now playing the variation of football. The Year 9 Boys were keen to play and improved throughout the tournament with the Isca A team finishing 4th from 9 school teams, with the B team only a few goals short of falling just behind.
Year 8 Footballers Continue to Impress in the Central Venue League
Isca’s most successful football team continue retain their place amongst the best of Devon’s school football teams. Isca’s A and B team hosted St Peter’s A and B’s, one of our biggest rivals, in the 7-a-side Central Venue League. Both Iasca sides played brilliantly with Isca A v St Peters A as well as Isca B v St Peters B resulting in a draws. All will be settled in late March at the Devon Schools Championships day where the top teams will clash to compete for the 2016 Championship Shield.
Women’s Premiership Rugby Player Coaches Isca Girls
Premiership team Bristol Rugby Club and Exeter University 1stXV player Kayleigh Armstrong will be joining the Isca PE team this term, teaching Year 7 girls Rugby in PE. Kayleigh, who has previously helped with coaching girls rugby at Isca, has had great success in signing for the premiership side as well commencing her final year of her honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Exeter University, well done for your fantastic achievement. We are very lucky to have Kayleigh back this year,  inspiring our Year 7 girls to take up the sport and with an immediate impact – the girls have requested a girls rugby club after just one session with Kayleigh.
Ewan Champions the Duathlon
Isca’s Year Ewan Warren, who have been an impressive all-round sportsman since joining us last year, continues to surprise us with his talents. Ewan, who is following in the footsteps of his father,  recently entered a Duathlon in Bristol. This event entails a 2mile run followed by a 10mile cycle and then another 2 miles running stretch to finish. Ewan’s group included a competitive 256 people, aged from 11-14 years. Ewan took the event in his stride and finished an amazing 1st place, an outstanding accomplishment. Well done Ewan, keep us updated on any futures challenges.
Year 8 Netball Keep Getting Better
Isca’s Year 8 netballers were out in action again this week competing in the Central Venue League held at St Luke’s. Isca netball has been a huge success over the past two year with players now training twice a week after school and playing regular fixtures. The girls played brilliantly against the other five team winning 2, drawing 2 and losing 1. A special mention to first time player Codie Snell who played brilliantly as Goal Keeper. Well done to all of the girl and good luck at the Devon Champs in March.
