School Closure

1st March 2018

Dear Parents / Carers,

Closure of Isca Academy due to Severe Weather on 1st March 2018
During severe weather conditions, we make every effort to keep the school open for as many children            as possible. However, in some circumstances, following completion of a risk assessment and information from the MET office, we may decide that it is necessary to temporarily close or partially close the school. Reasons for this may include:
•    too few staff members can reach the school, or advice is issued against travelling;
•    there is a risk of injury to pupils, staff or visitors due to the weather conditions;
•    a failure of the school’s heating systems.
In such circumstances, we will always attempt to give parents and carers advance notice, but due to the unpredictable nature of some weather events, I am sure you appreciate this may not always be possible.
On 1st March, following consultation with our Governing Body, information from the MET Office and completion of the risk assessment, I regrettably had to take the decision to close the school. This was due to:

•    The MET Office issuing a weather warning for the area;
•    Whilst we have not had the anticipated snow fall yet in this area. We have taken advice and believe that there is a likelihood that the weather conditions could significantly deteriorate during the day, to the extent that we are concerned for the safety of students and staff, on site or when making their way home safely.
•    Freezing conditions in the area and surrounding areas makes travelling to school this morning very dangerous.

A decision on whether the school will be open on Friday will be made later today (by 5pm) and parents will be notified by text message. Announcements will also be on local radio, the school website and Facebook page.

If you are not yet signed up to receive text messages from the school, and would like to access this service in future, please the school office. Please also let us know if your contact details have changed.
If you would like to read our Severe Weather Procedures, these are available on our school website.
I would like to thank you all for your understanding. Decisions to close the school are never taken lightly. However, these may sometimes be necessary for the safety and wellbeing of the school community.
Yours sincerely,

Miss Aimee Mitchell
Headteacher
