Work Experience

Work experience is a vital part of education. It allows students to spend time outside the classroom, getting a taste of the workplace and finding out what skills are important in getting a job.

We encourage all year 10 students to do a week’s work experience in July.
Students find and apply for the placement themselves, with the help of our work experience co-ordinator.

Previous students have secured themselves placements with a range of employers.  These include:  Tesco, Ben Bradshaw (MP), Devon and Cornwall Police, Southernhay Dental Practice, The Rougemont Hotel, Oxfam, and Exeter City Football Club.

Year 10 students at Isca Academy will take part in Work Experience in the week of the 1st to 5th July 2019.
Finding a work experience placement is the responsibility of the student, although help is available in school if you need it. There is a strict timetable for organising the placement which involves the school, the employer and other outside agencies.

Autumn 2018:
Year 10 students are being given the pack of information to help them to think about the placement they would like, approach employers and give the necessary information to them.
By 18/11/2018: Research completed and at least THREE letters written, checked by your PSHE teacher and posted by you.

By 14/12/2018: Follow up phone calls if no responses received.
By 03/02/2019: No luck? Send at least three more letters.

By 03/03/2019: Absolute deadline for confirmation by employers to the school.

Who to see if you need help.

Mr Peggs will be available in school to offer guidance on finding appropriate placements.
