Drama

• Expressing yourself in an active and exciting way
• Working in a group
• Contributing your ideas and taking on board those of others
• Exploring ideas by putting yourself in other people’s shoes
• Playing many parts in different imaginary situations
• Creating your own drama work
• Looking at plays written by other people

At the centre of all Drama is the exploration of COMMUNICATION.  Drama allows students to communicate with and understand others in new ways. Perhaps more than any other art form, Drama also provides training in the very PRACTICAL aspects of communication so necessary in today's increasingly information-centred world.

Drama Students will be less likely to have difficulty SPEAKING IN PUBLIC, will be more PERSUASIVE in their communications, both written and oral, will be better able to put themselves into others' shoes and relate to them, and will have a more POSITIVE, CONFIDENT SELF IMAGE. Students in Drama will learn to WORK TOGETHER, to cooperate; to find the best way for each member of a group to contribute, and to listen to and accept the viewpoints and contributions of others

Along with all this learning, Drama students will have FUN!

At KS3 pupils explore their own ideas through drama and are introduced to great poets, playwrights and authors as a springboard to their own performances. Their achievements are measured through their personal learning charts with an emphasis on co-operation with others and self-confidence.

At KS4 pupils will complete a BTEC Level 2 in Performing Arts – Acting. This is a two year course and pupils will refine their Performance Skills, participate in a Final Production and ready themselves for auditioning with their Individual Showcase.  There is excellent progression opportunities as Exeter College follow the BTEC Level 3 course.
