Extra Curricular

Isca Academy's extra-curricular programmes are exceptional.  Each department has a commitment to providing a stimulating and diverse extra-curricular programme for students. Opportunities range from the literary to the scientific to the creative and back again.

Each term we produce a guide to available extra curricular activities in school. This is downloadable and features all of the activities available including sports, arts, library sessions, and study clubs. An overview of our outdoor education sessions is also available.
Clubs are changed throughout the year and these will be advertised to students in school and details sent out to parents. Subjects also offer a range of drop-in revision and support sessions which teachers will advertise to their students. The full programme will be released in mid September.

Our PE and Sports programme for Autumn 2019 is downloadable HERE and will offer new activities each term.

The Music department is also offering varied termly extra curricular opportunities and the timetable for this is available HERE. Those wishing to pursue individual instrumental lessons should speak to Mrs Vallance or collect a letter from outside the music room.

Book Club is popular and meets in the Library on Tuesday lunchtimes, all year groups participate with regular events and competitions as well as trips out to meet authors and participate in the annual Carnegie shadowing event.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is fiercely championed in the school and we are a DofE awarding centre. Every year we take part with several teams of students in Ten Tors, we are also Exmoor Challenge champions and lead our own Exe Valley Challenge for primary learners.  Students wishing to join any of these programmes should speak to Mrs Byron.

The range of clubs on offer aim to enrich and extend students' experiences.  Students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities as it allows them to develop social, leadership, and teamwork skills.  These skills are invaluable when applying for Further and Higher Education.

Outdoor Education

We are very proud of our extensive outdoor education programme at Isca Academy and the number of students that are inspired to challenge themselves and their team mates to achieve considerable outcomes every year.
Our activites include:

Ten Tors
Multiple teams of our students take part in this event every year hiking 35, 45, or 55 mile routes across Dartmoor over 2 days. Each year around 35 students take part in teams of 6. The training is tough and requires true determination, but the rewards are golden.

Duke of Edinburgh Award
Isca Academy is a Duke of Edinburgh awarding centre and offers training for Bronze and Silver Awards for ages 14+. These are achieved through a personal programme of volunteering, skill, physical challenge and Expedition. All students have the opportunity to complete the Bronze award during Year 9.

Exmoor Challenge
A 16 mile route for teams of 4 across mixed terrain on Exmoor. Isca Academy has won team and overall trophies at this event since 2008! 48 students participated in this event this year.

Exe Valley Challenge
Isca's own walking challenge event for younger pupils in years 4 - 7. Teams of 4 take a 7 or 10 mile route starting and finishing at Isca .

Exe Valley Extreme
An internal team event for House group teams in Years 8 - 10 which takes place in the summer term. This is a highly competiitive event and includes physical and mental challenges both on the school site and around the Haven Banks area at the quayside.
