Extra Curricular

Isca Academy's extra-curricular programmes are exceptional.  Each department has a commitment to providing a stimulating and diverse extra-curricular programme for students. Opportunities range from the literary to the scientific to the creative and back again.

Each term we produce a guide to available extra curricular activities in school. This is downloadable below and features all of the activities available including revision sessions, sports, arts, library sessions, langugages and outdoor ed.

Our extensive PE and Sports programme is downloadable below and will offer new activities each term.

The Music department is also offering varied termly extra curricular opportunities and the timetable for this is also downloadable, along with information for those wishing to pursue individual instrumental lessons.

Book Club is popular and meets in the Library on Tuesday lunchtimes, all year groups participate with regular events and competitions as well as trips out to meet authors and participate in the annual Carnegie shadowing event.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is fiercely championed in the school and we are also Ten Tors champions, Exmoor Challenge champions and lead our own Exe Valley Challenge for primary learners.  Please see the downloads box below for training programme for all students participating in any of our expeditions.

The range of clubs on offer aim to enrich and extend students' experiences.  Students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities as it allows them to develop social, leadership, and teamwork skills.  These skills are invaluable when applying for Further and Higher Education.

Outdoor Education

We are very proud of our extensive outdoor education programme at Isca and the number of students that are inspired to challenge themselves and their team mates to achieve considerable outcomes every year.
A schedule of training and expedition dates is downloadable below.
Our activites include:

Ten Tors
Multiple teams of Isca students take part in this event every year hiking 35, 45, or 55 mile routes across Dartmoor over 2 days. In 2014, 35 students took part in teams of 6. The training is tough and requires true determination, but the rewards are golden.

Duke of Edinburgh Award
Isca offers training for Bronze and Silver Awards for ages 14+. These are achieved through a personal programme of volunteering, skill, physical challenge and Expedition. Last year 46 Isca students were awarded bronze awards, and 19 silver.

Exmoor Challenge
A 16 mile route for teams of 4 across mixed terrain on Exmoor. Isca has won team and overall trophies at this event since 2008 - in 2014 winning all 6 categories! 48 students participated in this event this year.

Exe Valley Challenge
Isca's own walking challenge event for younger pupils in years 4 - 7. Teams of 4 take a 7 or 10 mile route starting and finishing at Isca . The next event is on June 28th 2015. Booking will open in the New Year.

World Book Day 2015

Isca is celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March with lots of exciting activities.  There will be competitions, quizzes and mystery books in the library at break and lunchtime.

In addition, the entire school will read a short story together over the course of the day. The story is called 'The Octopus Nest' and is a chiller with a twist on the final page. Staff will be bringing in their favourite books to school and students can win prizes by spotting the books as they go through their school day.

Students will receive their £1 book World Book Day tokens from their tutors. These can be exchanged in Tesco or Waterstones for £1 books; see http://worldbookday.com/books/

Look out for ‘shelfies’ displayed on the website (see above!) and the plasma screen!
