Welcome to Isca

As we come to the end of the academic year, I was reflecting upon the highlights and lowlights, the actions we have taken and the emotions we have experienced.  I know that there have been many changes for students, staff and parents alike.  The changes to uniform in September caused a stir across Exeter.  I was pleased that my first month was peppered with emails and letters from members of the community commenting, not only about how smart our students looked, but also how politely our students accepted the compliments and how proudly our students answered questions about Isca Academy.

Throughout the year there have been opportunities for laughter and times of sadness, but my most prevalent emotion has been one of pride.  I am extremely proud of the students at Isca: our musicians have entertained us throughout the year, performing in the atrium and coming together to make the Isca Underground a resounding success; our individual sporting students have gained European honours and our sports teams have participated and even won on occasions, but always played with vigour and exhibited sportsmanlike conduct – something not always attributed to our professional sports people!  Our outdoor education teams have achieved the most amazing feats in a multitude of competitions and our academic success is marked by students achieving places at Oxford and Cambridge, being selected for the prestigious Exeter Mathematics School and being recognised for their skills as future leaders.

Having been brought up in a Methodist household, I was told that it is your actions every day that count, not your performances on high days and holidays – so with that in mind I would like to take this opportunity to applaud the students who have come to school every day, on time, in uniform, prepared to learn; and those who have worked hard in their lessons, grasping every opportunity on offer and growing as learners and as individuals.  I would also like to thank parents for their support and the team of teachers, support staff and governors who all contribute to making Isca Academy a vibrant, successful and exciting place to be educated.  Enjoy your summer and please return safely on September 4th at 8.45am.

Kind regards
Beverley Martin

Executive Principal
