Welcome to Isca
On the 1st October Isca became the first Ted Wragg Trust Academy. If we thought that things would feel markedly different…we were wrong! However, being an academy does give us some freedoms around the length of the school day and the curriculum. We have made slight changes to the structure of the day, to allow students to make the most of food breaks to fuel their learning. We're creating additional opportunities for Year 11 students to gain supported study time in examination subjects, and introducing new curriculum areas for Years 7, 8, and 9 in non-traditional subjects such as Media with a view to taking a GCSE at some point during Key Stage 3. At Isca, we intend to support students by giving them staggered opportunities to take some exams throughout their time with us (focused entirely on when your child is ready), in conjunction with the end of Year 11 exams.
As we come to the end of Term 1, many of our students will have undertaken residential trips to Bude, France and Amsterdam; day trips to Dawlish and participated in Duke of Edinburgh training. They have coped with the challenge of a new uniform, new rules, new staff and a new Principal. I would like to take this opportunity to applaud the response of pupils and parents to the changes, thank the many parents and local residents who have taken the time to forward their messages of support and appreciation, and to tell you that I am increasingly proud to say that I am the Executive Principal of Isca.
